Have you eaten brownies baked in a steam oven? Well, we can assure you that they are delicious and fudgy all at the same time. Steam ovens are not new to the market, but they have gained recent fame because of cooking shows like Masterchef and because they are incredibly healthy to use. With the continuous awareness about healthy eating for weight loss, many people are now using them.
Now, we’re not saying that just because you bake your brownies in a steam oven that they are exactly healthy (we wish we could eat them every day) but the circulation of steam will produce a beautifully moist brownie bite for you to enjoy. The secret to this divine recipe really is the steam oven!
The overall consistency of your steam oven brownies will depend on the type of chocolate you use. We recommend using a very good quality dark chocolate and using a dutch cocoa powder that is unsweetened. These will help balance out the sweetness of the brownies and give you the deep chocolatey colour.
So, are you ready to try out these cheeky brownies for the family using this whizz appliance?
Here’s what to do.
How to make Steam Oven Brownies:
Ingredients
For the Brownies
170 g Unsalted butter (cubed)
100g Dark chocolate (chopped)
1 Tbs Vanilla Extract/paste
3 Eggs (lightly beaten)
½ cup good quality cocoa powder (dutch works best)
½ cup Plain Flour
½ Tbs Salt
For the Frosting
100g Unsalted butter
120g Peanut butter
1 cup Icing Sugar
½ tsp Sea salt
Method
Grease your cake tin.
Make sure that the lining paper extends a little over the sides to ensure easy lifting. Set your steam oven to 160˚C on either 80% steam or 100% steam. However, if the oven has no variable setting, set it on the combination steam.
Brown the butter
Put your butter in a saucepan and place it over medium heat. Allow it to melt. Swirl the saucepan several times till the foams disappear and it starts to brown. This process will last for 5 minutes. You will notice that the foamy bubbles are shaping into distinct bubbles. When the colour changes, bring it down and pour into a heatproof bowl.
Add chocolate
Add to the butter. Allow it to sit for some minutes to melt the chocolate. Stir continuously until well combined, then add the sugar, vanilla and whisk all together. When combined set aside to cool.
Add eggs
Make sure the mixture is cool before adding eggs. Please don’t add your eggs when the mixture is hot or the eggs will become scrambled.
Add the flour
Sift flour into your bowl. Add the cocoa in and also add your salt. Stir all together till they mix well, then, pour it into your lined tin.
Bake
Transfer the tin into your steam oven and bake until you notice that the top is firm. It should take about 12 minutes in the oven.
Make your frosting
Place all your ingredients into the bowl of your electric mixer. Beat all together for 3-4 minutes until you achieve a fluffy and light frosting. Add ½ tablespoon of salt or more depending on your taste.
Serve
Cut the brownies into bars or squares and serve. You can cover and keep them in the fridge for at least five days or leave them out of the fridge on the counter. We’re sure they won’t last there for very long!
