Inspect the Hoses Regularly

Avoid using Quick Cycles
Quick cycles (programs under 30 mins.) are designed for freshening up clothes and are not meant to be used to clean a full soiled load of washing. Most people do not realise this and will try and consistently wash, for example, an 8kg load when the program is only designed to wash 4kg.
Overloading and prolonged use of the Quick was program will cause several issues:
1. Laundry will not wash correctly. Most detergents also do not have long enough time in the main wash cycle to activate correctly.
2. Rinsing the detergents from clothes may not be adequate, leaving residue on clothes. (not good for people with allergies and sensitive skin.
3. Prolong use of these types of programs will put strain on the drum as the machine will work hard to try and wash the laundry. We see many issues with drums that crack under pressure because people put the same amount of laundry that would typically be used in a normal program.
4. Quick washes do not use adequate temperature. This can lead to detergent residue build-up in the outer drum as well as smell and mould growth within the machine.

Clean the Washing Machine
Unlike the popular myth, washing machines do not clean themselves automatically. The hard water of Adelaide and the harmful detergents leave build-ups in your washing machine. These can prevent washing machines from cleaning effectively.

We recommend running this once every 3-4 months. We also recommend running your machine once a month on a maintenance cycle (i.e. cottons at 80 – 90 degrees with no laundry in it) as this will help remove any excess build-up of detergent on the outer drum as well as kill off any lingering bacteria which can lead to smell and mould growth. In between maintenance cycles and descaling, we encourage customers to try to wash at least once a week on a 60-degree program for things like towels and bed linen, and this will assist with maintaining the machine.
Leave the Washing Machine Door Open
After removing the clean laundry, do not close the door of the washing machine immediately. It helps keep your washing machine smelling good. The fresh air removes any moisture from washing machines and prevents mould and bacteria build-ups.
