The saying that “coffee makes the world go round” is true for millions of people worldwide, with some even going so far as to say that they can’t operate in the mornings without a good cup of Joe!
Nonetheless, like all good love scenarios, we can easily become blinded by our commitment to drinking coffees in the morning, so much so that we make our lives more difficult. To make your decision easier, we’ve come up with 5 common mistakes that we can help you avoid –ensuring that you’ll stay both productive and happy during the morning hours!
1. Buying on price
Considered a classic adage, the student mentality of purchasing something cheap twice shouldn’t be true when it comes to coffee lovers. While bean to cup machines are excellent for home use, if you’re in the habit of downing 3-4 cups per day or you have a big family an el-cheapo machine may not be able to handle the workload.
A cheap machine may seem like a good bargain in the short term, but long term you may find yourself buying 2 or 3 machines over 5 years instead of one good machine that will last you closer to 10 years, like a machine from the Jura range that we have on display here at Adelaide Appliance Gallery.
2. Only looking at capsule coffee machines
Nowadays supermarkets and other retailers are mostly interested in advertising capsule coffee machines. While they are a mess-free way of making a coffee at home, there are some downsides that some don’t really take into consideration.
For example, you should know that you could be limiting yourself to a single brand of capsule, sometimes even more expensive than ground coffee or coffee beans. Moreover, the taste is typically not as strong as with larger or more professional coffee machines –it will all depend on your taste buds and preferences. It’s also important to consider the environmental impact for the capsules. Many of these ‘coffee pods’ are not biodegradable and must be recycled at the shop they came from.
In terms of the advantages, capsule machines do tend to be very convenient to use and easy-to-clean, particularly ideal if you don’t use coffee machines too often.
3. Average Speed
Speed is essential for time-stretched coffee lovers who want to drink coffee on the go and then get to work. As a general rule of thumb, it will be hard to know how fast the coffee machine is until you try it out in our Adelaide Appliance Gallery showroom.
It’s good to know that an excellent machine takes around 15 seconds to pour 30ml of coffee before stopping to drip, while average units will take 30 seconds or longer for the same measurements of coffee.
While for domestic users 30 seconds will be something they can spare, in an office space it can be increasingly difficult to constantly have office workers lining up waiting for their morning fix!
4. Reduced capacity
The water-tank capacity of a great coffee machine is essential for making many coffees in quick succession, either when you have guests and don’t feel like constantly wanting to refill the water tank. Of course, more compact models will have smaller water tanks –ideal for if you want a longer coffee instead of the usual espressos.
If constantly filling up your tank isn’t appealing you can opt for a machine that connects to your tap so you will always have water ready for your hot cuppa.
5. The Milk dilemma: fresh or freeze dried?
Milk is the partner in crime for most coffee lovers, and it will depend on your preferences. While there are coffee machines that use fresh milk, they do require more cleaning and can carry bacteria if not properly cleaned.
You can generally choose to have a separate jug in which to froth and heat your milk or you can choose a machine that has an internal milk frother, again, if you are a high coffee drinker an internal milk heater may be better suited to your needs.
The best way to choose the right machine for you is to come down and visit our Adelaide Appliance Gallery Showroom on Payneham Road, St Peters. We have a range of working Jura coffee machines on display and we can walk you through the different features and finishes to help you complement your kitchen and coffee needs.
